The End
It has been 25 years since an unprecedented environmental disaster rendered the earth uninhabitable. Mother and father managed to get to safety in time and have been living in a luxurious underground bunker ever since. Besides themselves, the bunker is inhabited by three staff members and their best friend. And, of course, their son, who was born there. Life there is monotonous, but that is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of a girl. The harmony that has been so carefully maintained all these years is seriously disturbed. Repressed emotions and the lies that go with them suddenly surface.
Can our guilt be so great that we can never overcome the past? This is the question that director Joshua Oppenheimer, best known for his documentary The Act of Killing, seeks to answer. And he does so using a rather unusual film genre: the dystopian sci-fi musical. Starring Tilda Swinton, George Mackay, Michael Shannon and Moses Ingram.
