In 2023, it was announced that the term of office of Jens Stoltenberg, the Norwegian Secretary General of NATO, would be extended until October 2024. The war in Ukraine is still in full swing, and Stoltenberg has promised President Zelensky to support Ukraine for as long as necessary. This is a promise that is not so easy to keep; NATO decisions must be taken unanimously, but there is considerable division among NATO members, and support for Ukraine is crumbling. Stoltenberg must pull out all the diplomatic stops to keep allies Erdoğan and Orbán on board.
