Pavements
The American indie rock band Pavement is the most influential and best band in the world – at least in the eyes of filmmaker Alex Ross Perry. And to underline that opinion, he made this documentary in which he depicts the band's erratic musical style by fragmenting and mixing fact and fiction in an inimitable way. The result is a film that cannot be compared to any other film about a rock band, exactly as the band deserves, according to Perry.
In 1989, the band was founded by Stephen Malkmus and Scott Kannberg, joined by Mark Ibold, Steve West and Bob Nastanovich. Their music attracted attention in the underground circuit, after which their fame grew. They split up in 1999, reunited in 2010, and did so again in 2022. The first project Malkmus threw himself into was not a new album, but this film, in which archive footage, musical recordings, a parody, a biopic and a pop-up museum, often shown in split screen, leave the viewer in awe.
