Bubbling Baby
Sharine Rijsenburg | Netherlands | 2025 | 19' | Dutch spoken | English subtitled
Bubbling music is one of the most spirited manifestations of Caribbean-Dutch cultural heritage. The propulsive and highly danceable musicsymbolises freedom, power and ownership of the diaspora.

This vibrant documentary celebrates bubbling’s storied history, tracing the historic and cultural roots of the club music, while exploring the contemporary scene that keeps pushing the envelope. By explicitly forefronting the female voices of bubbling, filmmaker Sharine Rijsenburg composes a joyful and feminist symphony of a musical scene that perfectly embodies an viibrant way of living. The film Bubbling Baby (2025) is produced by mint2 and supported by the Netherlands Film Fund, International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), Gemeente Rotterdam, het Cultuurfonds – thanks in part to the DNB Fund, J.E. Bruk Out! A Dancehall Queen Documentary
Cori Wapnowski | United States | 2017 | 69' | English spoken | no subtitles
Bruk Out! takes a look at the raw, energetic world of Jamaican dancehall culture through the eyes of the powerful women at the heart of it all: the dancehall queens. These fearless women, often unfairly criticised for being vulgar and sexually aggressive, have turned Jamaican street dance into a global phenomenon.

This film, which filmmaker Cori Wapnowska spent two years working on, follows six of the bravest and best Dancehall Queens from around the world – Japan, Italy, America, Poland, Spain and, of course, Jamaica – as they prepare for battle in the world's biggest dancehall competition. Their stories, visually provocative and emotionally intimate, come together in a never-before-seen look at the life of a Dancehall Queen, a life that is often not all roses. She shows how the six resilient dancers pursue their dreams together at the world's biggest Dancehall Queen competition with determination, humour and hope, knowing that only one of them will be crowned Queen.

Sharine Rijsenburg is a creative researcher and visual anthropologist based in Rotterdam who combines explorations into socio-political issues with engaging storytelling. Her short film Paradeis Perdí, that is currently in development, demonstrate her practice of delving into Dutch and Caribbean archives to investigate the relationship between (self)image, representation and colonial history. Sharine also works as a researcher for several documentaries and VPRO Tegenlicht.
