Wicked: For Good
In Victor Fleming's 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, the brilliant adaptation of L. Frank Baum's novel of (almost) the same name, the relationships were crystal clear: there was the Good Witch Glinda and there was the Wicked Witch of the West, the green Elphaba. But it wasn't always that way. In 2003, Stephen Schwartz's highly successful musical Wicked hit the stage, revealing the whole story. Director Jon M. Chu filmed the musical in two parts; the first part, simply called Wicked, was released in 2024, and the second, Wicked: For Good, has now been released. Once again, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande play the leading roles, while Jeff Goldblum reprises his role as the Wizard of Oz.
Years after the events of Wicked, the Good Witch Glinda has become a beloved figure, now living in the Emerald Palace, while the Wicked Witch Elphaba lives in exile and must hide. Glinda is still doing her best to reconcile Elphaba with the Wizard of Oz, but everything changes with the unexpected and surprising arrival of Dorothy Gale from Kansas.
