The Voice of Hind Najab
On 29 January 2024, Israeli forces violently occupy the western part of Gaza City. The people who live there are told to leave, and so the phones at the Palestinian Red Crescent emergency centre are ringing non-stop. Then operator Omar receives a call from six-year-old Hind Rajab, the only survivor in a car that has been shot to pieces. Together with his colleague Rana, he does everything he can to rescue the desperate and terrified girl from her terrible situation. A rescue team is nearby, but they cannot simply drive there with their ambulance. The Israeli army must first issue a pass, and that takes time, time that Hind does not have.
In an almost documentary style, using original sound clips, director Kaouther Ben Hania tells this true and nerve-racking story of a young girl who is crushed by all the Israeli violence in the Gaza Strip. The film leaves the viewer with feelings of anger, powerlessness and bewilderment.
