Vietnam veteran and ex-alcoholic Mike is taking part in a show where amateurs perform songs by famous artists with a song by Don Ho. Also participating is hairdresser and single mother Claire, who will perform a song by Patsy Cline. When they meet, sparks fly and they decide to start a Neil Diamond tribute band together: Thunder & Lightning. And their ambitions are high: they don't want to just imitate Diamond's songs, they want to bring the essence of his music to life in what they call the “Neil Diamond Experience”. And they do it very well. Their private lives are also going well: they fall in love and get married. Then disaster strikes...

Director Craig Brewer wrote the screenplay for this film himself, basing it on the true story of Mike and Claire Sardina, who performed with their Neil Diamond tribute band in the 1980s and 1990s. Starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson in the lead roles.
