Hamnet

Stratford, 16th century: Latin teacher and writer William Shakespeare becomes fascinated by Agnes, rumoured to be the daughter of a witch from the forest. The two quickly fall madly in love, marry and have their first child. William works at his father's glove shop, but he finds it hardly interesting. Agnes persuades him to go to London, where he might be able to make a name for himself in the theatre world. Shortly after his departure, she gives birth to twins: Hamnet and Judith. But tragedy strikes: Hamnet falls ill and dies. William returns from London, but does not stay long, much to Agnes's frustration. The heartbroken William begins working on a new play in London: Hamlet, a tribute to his son.

This enchanting and poetic story about the healing power of art is based on the novel of the same name by Maggie O'Farrell, who co-wrote the screenplay with acclaimed director Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals). Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley play the leading roles, and the score is by Max Richter.
