Hungry Ghost Diner

After an unexpected visit from her uncle Ah Kiu to her food truck in Kuala Lumpur, Bonnie decides to drive home to visit her parents' house and her father Bobby in Behrang Stesen, a village somewhere in the north. She only wants to stay for a short while, but coronavirus thwarts her plans. Due to a lockdown, she has to spend the night in her family's café. And she is not the only guest, because the spirits of beloved deceased relatives also join in to celebrate the traditional ghost festival. There she also discovers that Uncle Ah Kiu has recently passed away.

In this light-hearted mix of family drama and fantasy, it becomes clear that ghosts, as seen in the West, are not evil beings, but rather the non-physical form that beloved deceased have taken. Ultimately, as director We Jun Cho emphasises in this universal story, it's all about the bond with your family, whether they are alive or dead.
