Bel Ami
In the dead of winter in a small Chinese town, a middle-aged man comes out of the closet and finds love in a man going through a breakup. A lesbian couple decides to look for a gay man to marry and have a child with. A lonely restaurant owner looks curiously at his customers. The stories of these individuals criss-cross on their lonely paths in search of love and connection.
Nominated for 8 Golden Horse Awards, including Best Narrative Feature, Bel Ami draws us into a different kind of love story, where the cold, crisp black-and-white images lend texture to this snowy town as the cast of characters speak of love and freedom. Part romance, part absurdist comedy, and altogether a distinctly Chinese film with touches of French influence, Bel Ami is a story of chance encounters, futile conversations, and lonely people looking for this elusive thing called love.
