Familiy Matters
Spanning four distinct seasons over two decades, Family Matters portrays the everyday lives of the Hsiao family, a seemingly ordinary Taiwanese family that has been keeping their secrets within. The stories are told from the perspectives of each member of the family - the elder sister, Spring, is in search of her true identity; the younger brother, Summer, stumbles upon his origins by chance; the mother, Autumn, remains trapped in a shame carried from her past; and the father, Winter, desperately tries to turn his life around.
Director Pan Ke-Yin, who expands upon his Golden Horse-nominated short film My Sister (2021) in his debut feature film, sensitively depicts the complexities of family bonds while blending in a compassionate sense of humour. In portraying harsh realities, anchored by an award-winning cast, Family Matters captures emotions so raw and authentic that they will resonate across different family experiences.
