Amour
Austrian master director Michael Haneke enjoyed his greatest success in 2012 with Amour, a tender drama about ageing and love. It won him dozens of film awards, including the Palme d'Or and an Oscar. The leading roles are played by Jean-Louis Trintignant, Emmanuelle Riva and Isabelle Huppert.
Georges and Anne, a couple in their eighties living in Paris, have been together for fifty years. Both worked as music teachers for many years. They have a daughter, Eva, who also earns her living as a musician and currently lives abroad with her family. One day, Anne suffers a stroke and ends up in hospital. When she returns home after a while – completely paralysed on one side – Georges takes care of her, which proves to be far from easy. Not only is the old couple's love put to the test by Anne's rapid decline, but their relationship with their daughter Eva also comes under strain.
