Tussen broers

Filmmaker Tom Fassaert likes to tell about his family in his films. In 2015, he painted a fascinating portrait of his grandmother in the documentary A Family Affair, which earned him the Special Jury Prize at IDFA and a Golden Calf at the Netherlands Film Festival. In his new film, Tussen broers (Between Brothers), he turns his camera on his father Rob and his older brother René, two elderly men who are very different from each other but still inextricably linked. He does so with great patience and even more affection.

René Fassaert leads a secluded life in a house cluttered with belongings and memories. His brother Rob visits him regularly and is in fact his only link to the outside world. When their mother dies, they decide to set out together in search of traces of their father, who abandoned them as young children and never contacted them again. Is it possible to shake off the burden of your family history?
