Before the film, QP curator Renske Diks will speak with director Bruce LaBruce.
L.A. Zombie
An alien zombie creature emerges from the Pacific Ocean. After being picked up by a surfer in a truck in the mountains, a serious accident occurs, killing the driver. But the alien zombie fucks the dead man back to life. Acting as a kind of dark saviour, the creature goes in search of dead men in Los Angeles – a white-collar criminal, a gang member, a homeless junkie, a group of drug-addicted porn stars – to fuck them back to life. Unable to bear the harsh reality of L.A., the zombie eventually finds solace in a cemetery…
Canadian director Bruce LaBruce, known as a pioneer of the queercore punk rock movement, knew that this film would not appeal to a wide audience. But when its screening in Australia was banned by the film classification board, he protested vehemently, stating that “censorship in any form should never be tolerated”. The alien zombie is played by French porn star François Sagat.
