Los domingos
Seventeen-year-old Ainara attends a Catholic school, just as her late mother once did. Everyone around her expects her to go to university after school, but following a trip with the school choir to a convent, she realises that a contemplative life as a nun in the convent appeals to her far more. When she expresses this wish to her family, the reactions are very mixed: her father has his doubts but supports his daughter’s choice, whilst her atheist aunt Maite is completely against it and fears her niece will throw her life away. Is it truly her own choice, or has she been influenced by the religious school management?
With sharp dialogue and nuanced observations, director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa addresses issues such as tolerance, indoctrination and personal freedom in this drama, which she wrote herself. It has earned her 34 film awards to date. The lead role is played with great conviction by debutante Bianca Soroa.
