Nina Wu
Since the Harvey Weinstein affair – which led to the #MeToo movement, which in turn revealed that Weinstein wasn't alone in his misconduct – virtually everyone knows that the world of film is not just all sunshine and roses. In her stylish, at times surrealistic drama director Midi Z shows what this means in practice. Leading actress Wu Ke-xi wrote the screenplay.
After eight years of trying to make it as an actress, Taiwanese Nina Wu (Wu) finally sees her dreams come true with a leading role in a blockbuster. She has to squash her discomfort, though, as the film does include an explicit sex scene that requires her to shed all her clothes. Still, she accepts it. The filming is an ordeal, especially as the director treats her like a piece of trash. She barely manages to finish the project. The film becomes a huge success, but Nina isn't doing so well: she is haunted by nightmares in which a mysterious woman is stalking her.
