Never Rarely Sometimes Always

Autumn – a 17-year-old living with her parents in a small Pennsylvania town – is going through a moody phase. This weighs especially heavily on the relationship with her father. But then it is a difficult time for her: she is several months pregnant – unwanted – and realizes that she cannot turn to any local doctor for help. The only person she confides in is her cousin and best friend Skylar, who knows a clinic in New York City where Autumn can have an abortion. Without telling their parents and paying for their trip with stolen money, the two girls board a bus to the city, embarking on an emotional trip, which doesn't turn out quite as planned.

With her third film, writer-director Eliza Hittman delivers a sensitive, nuanced drama. Without showing big emotions, the film gets under your skin, also due to the excellent performances of the two gifted lead actresses Sidney Flanigan and Talia Ryder.
