Monsieur Verdoux
A suave but cynical man supports his family by marrying and murdering rich women for their money. The job has some occupational hazards though.
It was Orson Welles' idea to film the true story of the French murderer Henri Désiré Landru with Chaplin in the lead. However Chaplin preferred to make the film himself. Monsieur Verdoux became his most controversial film. A brilliant, deep-black comedy about money, marriage and murder.
