Here We Are

Divorced, middle-aged Aharon has retired from work to devote his life to caring for his autistic son. They live together in a harmonious routine, away from the big bad real world. But Uri is almost an adult and his mother thinks it is time for him to move to an assisted living facility and learn to live more independently. Aharon believes no other person will be able understand his son better and wants to remain his full-time guardian himself. Under increasing pressure from his ex-wife and a social worker, he finally agrees though. But on their way to the institution, Uri throws a tantrum, and Aharon decides to run away with his son. After all, Uri is clearly not ready for this separation. Or is it actually Aharon who cannot let go of his son?

Shai Avivi and Noam Imber play the lead roles in Here We Are, a moving and heart-warming tragicomedy by Israeli director Nir Bergman about a father-son relationship, aging and learning to let go.
