Werk ohne Autor - prepremiere

German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck enjoyed his greatest success to date in 2006 with his multi-awarded (among which an Oscar) Das Leben der Anderen. His newest film, Werk ohne Autor, once again dives into Germany's past. It's a historical drama and love story of epic proportions, loosely based on the life and work of GDR painter Gerhard Richter, who fled to the West in 1961.

1937: Kurt Barnert learns to love art at a young age, guided by his aunt Elisabeth, who later falls victim to the Nazi regime. After the war, Kurt begins his studies at the Dresden art academy. Here he meets Ellie. They fall in love, much to the vexation of Ellie's father, gynaecologist Carl Seeband, who tries everything to drive a wedge between the two lovers. Without either of them knowing, Kurt and Seeband are however bound together through their pasts. With Tom Schilling, Sebastian Koch and Paula Beer.
