Amélie – 20th anniversary

Shy waitress Amélie Poulain works in a café in Paris. After the death of her mother, she has withdrawn into her own fragile world. In her free time, she likes to observe people and let her imagination run wild. When she hears that Lady Diana has crashed into a Parisian tunnel, she discovers her purpose in life: she wants to solve other people's problems and does so in her own unique way. Her mission is unexpectedly disrupted when she encounters the eccentric collector Nino Quincampoix.

Twenty years after its premiere, the French comedy Amélie has lost none of its charm, which is not only due to the fairytale-like way in which director Jean-Pierre Jeunet portrays Paris, but also to the endearing acting of leading actress Audrey Tautou, who is truly cut out for the role. In 2001, this classic was an international box-office hit and won a whole load of international film awards, including a Bafta, four Césars and four European Film Awards.
