Nine Days
In an old house somewhere remote, Will spends his days watching people's lives through the eyes of those same people on an array of vintage television screens. He feels close to these subjects, but now and then one of them dies and when that happens, there is room for a new, still unborn life. These unborn souls first arrive at Will's, who evaluates and interrogates them extensively to determine their suitability for life. They face oblivion, if they are deemed unsuitable. One of the candidates, Emma, turns out to be very different from the others. A free-spirited soul, she forces Will to face his own shortcomings and shows him that he has lost the ability to see life's essence.
A truly original tale about the human soul in limbo, the debut of Japanese-Brazilian director Edson Oda. He wrote the story himself, which was described by one American reviewer as "moving, graceful, and powerful". With Winston Duke and Zazie Beetz.
