Reflection

November, 2014: Ukrainian surgeon Serhiy attends the birthday party of his daughter Polina. His ex-wife Olha and her new boyfriend Andrij are also present. Under the influence of Andrij, a soldier fighting the Russians in eastern Ukraine, Serhiy also decides to enlist in the army. Together with Andrij, he leaves for the front, but things immediately go wrong and the two are taken prisoner by the Russians. They end up in a camp where a sadistic commander does not hesitate to use any means to rob the prisoners of their last shred of human dignity. Andrij does not survive the ordeal, but Serhiy is released on condition that he will keep silent about what he has experienced. How should he go on in life?

One day, director Valentin Vasyanovich saw a pigeon crashing into his window. It made him realise how fragile and finite life is, and it was the reason for making this allegorical, beautifully designed film that arrives like a sledgehammer blow.
