Little Man, Time and the Troubadour

Artist Sipa Labakhua, the troubadour from the title, travels with his micro theatre on his bicycle through his native country Abkhazia. And when he stops somewhere, he performs his puppet show, an almost surreal parable on the standstill of time. It is an autobiographical piece that he based on the life of his father, an idealistic politician he admired very much, who was forced to flee to Moscow with his family after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the war with Georgia in the early 1990s. Now that he is back, he confronts the audience with his own history, a story of war and uprooting. Ultimately, he seeks an answer to the questions: what is a country, what is home?

"When I met Sipa Labakhua, it was as if I had found my counterpart, my twin brother," says director Ineke Smits. Together they wrote the piece with which Labakhua travels through the country, together they wrote this poetic road movie.

For those who speak Dutch:
on Saturday 26 March, at 4 pm, there is a special screening of Little Man, Time and the Troubadour; special because director Ineke Smits and cultural historian/publicist Thomas von der Dunk will be present that afternoon. After the film they will speak with Dana Linssen (NRC Handelsblad).
