Downton Abbey: A New Era
On Christmas Day 2015, the final episode of Downton Abbey, the hugely popular period drama series set at the beginning of the twentieth century, aired in Britain. For six seasons, not only British viewers, but fans all over the world, were hooked on the ups and downs of the aristocratic Crawley family: Violet, the Dowager Countess, Robert, the Earl of Grantham, his wife Cora, the Countess, and their daughters Mary, Edith and Sybil. The lives of their domestic staff, led by the unforgettable Mr Carter and Mrs Hughes, received just as much screen time.
2019 saw a sequel with the film Downton Abbey, in which the whole household is in turmoil in anticipation of royal visitors. The story now continues with a new film: Downton Abbey: A New Era. This time, the residents of the stately country house will be travelling to the South of France. Starring the complete original cast, while creator/writer Julian Fellowes once again wrote the screenplay.
