In 2022, Eye will commemorate the centenary of one of the oldest and largest film companies in Japan: Shochiku. Shochiku is famous for his production of shoshimingeki: domestic drama, aimed at a female audience, with big stars. Yasijuro Ozu – who worked almost exclusively for Shochiku – would reach great heights in this genre.
Four of his masterpieces are being released nationally by Eye and can be seen at Rialto De Pijp and Rialto VU: Tokyo Story (1953), The Flavor of Green Tea over Rice (1952), Tokyo Twilight (1957) and Early Spring (1956). Click here to see when the films are up for views.
