De man uit Rome

A weeping statue of the Virgin Mary has turned up in a border village in Limburg, according to a video that has gone viral on the internet. The Vatican launches an investigation and sends sceptical, 37-year-old priest Filippo to the village, a man determined to expose the alleged miracle as a hoax. Once in the village, he encounters a community that has suffered collective trauma after a 'black day' four years earlier. He meets one of the owners of the statue, 19-year-old Térèse, a mysterious, taciturn woman to whom he is attracted. After a series of seemingly miraculous events, his certainties as a priest and as a human being come into question.

The Man from Rome is the fourth feature by Jaap van Heusden, who previously won three Golden Calfs with In Blue and an International Emmy Award with De Nieuwe Wereld. Rising Italian star Michele Riondino plays the role of the priest.
