Deze voorstelling maakt deel uit van Rialto Filmclub met als gastspreker deze maand Ernst-Jan Pfauth.

The film season for LA RIOT, Rialto's own youth editors, is coming to an end. But luckily there is one more splashy screening on the programme, as LA RIOT closes this season with a pre-premiere of Asteroid City, the new film by American director Wes Andersons, a man who always manages to surprise audiences with his highly original films.

Dress code: Wes Anderson

This LA RIOT pre-premiere is not just any old one... it's a party pre-premiere! And on such an occasion, we expect everyone to come dressed tiptop, and to do so in the style of Wes Anderson. Anyone who knows his films a little knows that a lot is therefore possible. Whoever dresses the most Wes-Andersonesque will receive a present from the LA RIOT fashion jury!

But that's not all: after the film there will be a film-pub quiz in the Rialto Café, hosted by DJ Rowan.

Asteroid City

It may sound strange, a mix of drama, science fiction and romantic comedy. But there may be no director better suited to make something beautiful and interesting out of that than Wes Anderson. With films such as The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Grand Budapest Hotel and The French Dispatch, he has proved he can weave together curious, sometimes absurd storylines into a unique whole like no other. He does so with beautiful sets, very special camera work and an all-star cast. For his new film Asteroid City, for instance, he managed to enlist Tom Hanks, Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson and Edward Norton, among others.

The year is 1955: in the small town of Asteroid City, somewhere in the desert, a convention is being organised for young Stargazers and Space Cadets. The intention is for schoolchildren and their parents to come together for a scientific competition, but mostly to strengthen bonds of friendship. However, the convention is spectacularly disrupted by truly earth-shattering events ...
