Squaring the Circle (The Story of Hipgnosis)
A black surface with a white triangular prism in the centre. From the left, a white beam of light falls in; on the right, the light leaves the prism, broken into the colours of the rainbow, and there is no text. It is the cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon - a legendary album, because of both the music and the cover. That cover was designed by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey 'Po' Powell, who together ran the renowned British design studio Hipgnosis. This studio is responsible for many high-profile and iconic record covers of famous bands and artists, especially from the 60s and 70s.
Dutch director Anton Corbijn, himself a world-famous photographer, tells the story of Hipgnosis in this documentary. Featured are Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel, Graham Gouldman of 10cc, Noel Gallagher, among others.
