Coppelia

In 1870, the ballet Coppélia, or The Girl with the Enamel Eyes, premiered in Paris. Léo Delibes wrote the music and Arthur Saint-Léon the choreography. It was a great success. In collaboration with the Dutch National Ballet, the ballet has now been adapted to in a beautiful mix of animation and live action. This time, the Italian composer Maurizio Malagnini is responsible for the music.

The tender love between Zwaantje and Frans is threatened by the beautiful Coppelia. She is the creation of Dr Coppelius, a cosmetic doctor, who seduces the villagers with the idea of perfect beauty. Frans is also under Coppelia's spell. But the headstrong Zwaantje discovers that Dr Coppelius' intentions are above all evil. In his 'beauty salon', he steals the villagers' unique characteristics. Frans's love-filled heart is the last thing he needs to bring Coppelia to life. Zwaantje does everything possible to save Frans from a terrible end.
