Retrospekt

For some films it is better not to tell too much about the plot. This is the case for Retrospekt, director Esther Rots' second feature after Kan door huid heen. Rots, who also wrote the script, has constructed the film in such a way that it is up to viewers to complete the story. She achieves this by continuously jumping back and forth in time. Rots presents the puzzle pieces, viewers will have to put them together. The result is a fascinating spectacle, also thanks to the beautiful acting of Flemish leading actress Circé Lethem.

Mette, married to Simon and mother of two, works at a domestic violence support centre. One day Mette invites Lee, a victim of abuse hiding from her husband, to stay with her while Simon is away on a business trip. Mette's decision triggers a radical change in her life.
