La ruche
Single mother Alice and her three teenage daughters Marion, Claire and Louise form an unusual family, to say the least, and this is mainly due to mother Alice's unpredictable behaviour. She suffers from a bipolar disorder, which makes her sometimes pleasantly disturbed, sometimes depressed and angry. Especially Marion, the eldest daughter, does her utmost to keep the family together, although she would prefer to leave for Brazil and go dancing there. But she cannot bring herself to leave her sisters behind in the destructive and emotional chaos of her mother.
Director Christophe Hermans has been making films for 17 years, but with La ruche he is making his feature film debut. He based the story, which recalls the work of the Dardenne brothers, on Arthur Loustalot's novel of the same name. Ludivine Sagnier, known from 8 Femmes and Swimming Pool, plays the main role very convincingly.
