Beautiful Beings
Addi, 14, lives with his eccentric mother, who is clairvoyant, in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik. One of his classmates, Balli, who is insecure and neglected by his parents, is constantly bullied and humiliated. After yet another incident, Addi decides to take care of him and includes him in his 'gang' of outsiders. Together with friends Konni and Siggi, the quartet explores their burgeoning life into adulthood. They do not shy away from aggression and violence, but they also learn about mutual loyalty and affection. When their behaviour escalates further, Addi looks for ways to bring him and his friends back to a safer path.
This heart-warming and well-acted coming-of-age drama is the second feature film from director Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson, who also wrote the screenplay. The film was awarded internationally several times, including at the last Berlinale.
