Several years after his parents' divorce, gloomy 17-year-old Nicholas no longer feels at home with his mother Kate. He is also neglecting his school career. His father Peter and his new lover Beth decide to take Nicholas in in an attempt to get his life back on track. Peter does everything he can to be a better father to his son than his own father was to him. But are all the well-meaning concerns enough to help Nicholas?
Between 2010 and 2018, Florian Zeller worked on a theatrical trilogy: La Mère, Le Père and Le Fils. In 2020, he adapted the second part himself into film, released here as The Father starring Anthoy Hopkins. He has now done the same with the third part: The Son. Anthony Hopkins is once again on hand this time as Peter's father. Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern and Vanessa Kirby also make an appearance.
