White Noise

US, 1980s: Hitler expert Jack Gladney lives with his wife Babette in an idyllic town where he teaches at the local university. For both Jack and Babette, it is their fourth marriage, and so they live in a single-family home with a whole bunch of children from previous marriages and one child of their own. That life is so short worries them, but otherwise there is not a whole lot going on. Everything changes overnight when a truck collides with a train carrying chemical stuff. A poison cloud spreads through their region, and like countless others, they flee.

This new film by Noah Baumbach, who broke through in 2019 with the critically acclaimed Marriage Story, is an adaptation of the unfilmable novel of the same name by Don DeLillo, a writer who has portrayed life in the US in postmodernist fashion. The lead roles are played by Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig.
