Babylon

Hollywood, 1920s: actor Jack Conrad's career is at an all-time high - all the films he stars in become blockbusters. He is therefore a welcome guest at parties, though he usually leaves inebriated. Young Nellie and Mexican Manny Torres also dream of a glittering career in the film world and try to realise their dream by looking for jobs at the places where these parties take place. With success: Nellie gets a role after the actual actress dies after an overdose, while Manny is taken under his wing by Jack after Manny brings a stupor-drunk Jack home safely. All goes well, until the sound film enters the stage...

Director Damien Chazelle, best known for Whiplash and the Oscar-winning La La Land, paints a disconcerting picture of decadence in Hollywood in his new film Babylon. But despite all that, wonderful films are being made, he also shows. With Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Diego Calva.
