How to Blow Up a Pipeline
In 2021, Swedish writer, scientific researcher and environmental activist Andreas Malm published the manifesto How to Blow Up a Pipeline: Learning to Fight in a World on Fire, in which he argues for more radical approaches to the climate crisis. In the fight against climate devastation, less pacifistic means such as sabotage are also permissible, he believes. Director Daniel Goldhaber has taken these controversial ideas as a starting point for his second film, a very exciting eco-thriller cast in the form of a real heist movie.
During an extreme heatwave, the mother of non-violent climate activist Xochitl has died. She is angry and frustrated that nothing seems to be happening in the fight against global warming and so, she decides, the time has come to change things completely. She and a group of like-minded people come up with a very bold and dangerous plan: they want to blow up an oil pipeline in west Texas.
