Western Arabs

Munir Shargawi once fled his Palestinian native soil, torn apart by conflict, ended up in Denmark and married a Danish woman with whom he had children. But Munir still hasn't overcome his traumas, nor has he really managed to settle in Danish society. He has an aggressive, quick temper, which often leads him to clash with the rather phlegmatic Danes.

His son Omar, photographer and filmmaker, wants to get to know his father better, if only to ensure that he will not end up with his father's temper and to prevent his daughter from being brought up as he was himself. To achieve this, he filmed his father, friends and family on and off for twelve years. And himself. His efforts resulted in raw, unpolished images, which he combined with scenes from his action films and thrillers, in which his father often stars. Western Arabs presents an honest, unembellished picture of a difficult father-son relationship, in which nobody is spared – not even Omar himself.
