20.000 especies de abejas

Eight-year-old Aitor knows for sure: she is really not a boy and therefore does not want to be addressed with that boy's name anymore, from now on she wants to be called LucĂa. She spends the summer with her mother Ane in the Basque countryside with her mother's family. Ane fully supports her daughter in her choice, but not everyone is so open-minded, like her grandmother, who insists she has a grandson and not a granddaughter. LucĂa especially seeks the company of her great-aunt, beekeeper Lourdes. She listens to the child and does not judge.

Spanish-Basque director Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren herself wrote the screenplay for this feature debut, which has already been compared to the work of Céline Sciamma and the Dardenne brothers. This warm and enchantingly portrayed drama has already won many awards. In particular, the acting of the very young leading actress Sofía Otero made a big impression - at the last Berlinale, she won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance.
