Cold Case Hammarskjöld

In 1957, Swedish diplomat Dag Hammarskjöld began his second term as Secretary-General of the United Nations. These were times of turmoil, with not only the Cold War but also great unrest on the African continent due to the decolonization process. Hammarskjöld did all he could for Africa, but his efforts were not widely appreciated. In September 1961, he died while in Africa when his plane crashed in a forest in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). Was it an accident or engineered? The true cause is still unknown.

50 plus years later, the Danish filmmaker, journalist and provocateur Mads Brügger and the Swedish private detective Göran Björkdahl undertake new attempts to solve this cold case. They investigate remains of the aircraft wreckage, talk to witnesses not previously interviewed and dive into the archives. But they are blocked at every turn. As their investigation closes in, they discover another crime, one that is far worse and more shocking than the death of Hammarskjöld.
