The Pod Generation
In the near future, (digital) technology has become a dominant factor in everyday life, including that of New York couple Rachel and Alvy. The tech company Pegazus has even developed an artificial womb, making pregnancy no longer the exclusive domain of the woman; indeed, the unborn child is brought to maturity outside the body in an egg-shaped capsule. Rachel, herself a Pegazus employee, is enthusiastic, but the old-fashioned biologist Alvy prefers the natural way. He is persuaded by Rachel, however, and they begin the pregnancy. Alvy becomes increasingly enthusiastic, while for Rachel the opposite is true.
The pursuit of technological progress raises a number of questions that director Sophie Barthes addresses in this comedy: to what extent can our lives become entangled with the artificial, are our lives really improved by it, and what are we actually losing? With Emilia Clarke and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
