But few have as many original and award-winning films to their name as brothers Joel and Ethan Coen. In 2021, Joel made his first film alone: The Tragedy of Macbeth, a beautiful drama shot in black-and-white. A year later, Ethan made his first solo film, a documentary about Jerry Lee Lewis. Drive-Away Dolls is the first feature he directed alone, a farcical comedy that harks back to B-movies of the 60s and 70s. He co-wrote the screenplay with his wife Tricia Cooke.

Free-spirited Jamie balks that yet another relationship has hit the rocks, while her timid friend Marian finally needs to loosen up. Taking a break is a good idea, so they decide to take a road trip to Tallahassee, Florida. They rent a car, but it was clearly not meant for the two of them, so they have to deal with a group of rather clumsy and bumbling criminals.
