El Eco
On a hillside in Mexico is the village of El Eco, a place in a vast natural setting where people live in harmony with the seasons. The women and children care for each other and the land, while the men work far away. The young Montse, for instance, lovingly cares for her elderly grandmother, while the even younger Sarahí teaches the little ones with admirable knowledge. The village exudes an atmosphere of paradise, infused with warmth, fun and affection. But between tradition and emancipation, frictions also arise.
In El Eco, Tatiana Huezo, best known for her previous film Prayers For The Stolen, takes an intimate look at the daily activities of an isolated community and shows how love, work and life merge seamlessly in a warm society. It is a documentary, but one you experience as a feature film. No surprise, the film won the award for Best Documentary and Best Direction at the Berlin Film Festival.
