Future Me
Since 2017, Dutch filmmaker Vincent Boy Kars has been working on his millennial trilogy, films depicting how Dutch millennials are trying to find their identity. That year, he released Independent Boy, a film in which Kars took the reigns in the life of his indecisive friend Metin. Three years later, in Drama Girl, he turned the camera on Leyla and lets her reenact important episodes in her life.
This final part of the trilogy is about Kars himself. In a very personal and candid way, he tries to find answers to two essential questions: who am I and what do I want to be? His parents, his girlfriend Eva and a therapist help find the answers. Kars himself tells the story, as does actor Martijn Lakemijer, who can be seen as Kars' alter ego. The result is a fascinating mix of docu and fiction, and so it should be: "Fiction is the lie we use to tell the truth," says Kars.
