Nuclear Now
Even though everyone knows that fossil fuels will eventually (not too long) make large parts of our planet uninhabitable, we still rely on oil, coal and gas to meet our energy needs. While wind turbines and solar panels generate clean energy, the question is whether we can ever build and install enough of them.
Ever since the 1950s, there has been a clean alternative that does produce a lot of energy: nuclear power plants. This alternative was once embraced as the solution to the pressing energy problem, but since the Chernobyl disaster (1986), nuclear power plants have been discredited, reinforced by the Fukushima disaster in 2011.
In this fervently delivered plea, famed director Oliver Stone argues that the fear of nuclear power is understandable but unjustified, as it was human failure that underpinned the aforementioned disasters. In his view, nuclear power is the only alternative left to save the world.
