Àma Gloria
For as long as six-year-old Cléo can remember, she has been lovingly raised by nanny Gloria. Her single father Arnaud is away from home too often to look after his daughter himself. The bond between Cléo and Gloria is close and warm; the two simply adore each other. One day, Gloria receives a phone call from her native Cape Verde: her mother has died and now she must return to take care of her own children. Gloria and Cléo have to say goodbye, which hits them very hard. However, Gloria promises that they will see each other again very soon, and indeed, in the summer holidays Cléo is allowed to travel to Cape Verde. But that summer, too, comes to an end.
After Party Girl (2014), this is the second feature-length film by French director Marie Amachoukeli-Barsacq. She wrote the screenplay herself, together with Pauline Guéna, for this moving story about the unconditional love between child and nanny. With a wonderful performance by Louise Mauroy-Panzani as Cléo.
