Club Zero
The pupils attending Miss Dorset's boarding school excel in all subjects. Rightly so, as it is a renowned and rather elite institution that offers only the best to its pupils. One day, a new teacher is hired to teach the student all about responsible eating: Miss Novak. Not only does she know a lot about healthy eating, but she also casts herself as a life coach. In doing so, she wins the hearts of the students, who increasingly go along with her extreme and potentially dangerous dietary prescriptions. As soon as the parents and other teachers realise what is going on, all alarm bells go off.
Told with much black humour, this drama by Austrian director Jessica Hausner is not so much a story about eating disorders, but takes a very sharp look at people's willingness to go along with what a charismatic person tries to make us believe; we are more than willing.
