The Straight Story (25th Anniversary)

In 1999, after his TV series Twin Peaks and films like Wild at Heart and Lost Highway, everyone expected his new film to depict another nightmarish world populated by terrifying bad guys. The Straight Story turned out to be a huge surprise: Lynch came up with a story, based on true events, about looking back and forgiving, a touching road movie full of helpful and kind people. The health of 73-year-old Alwin Straight, a man living on a small pension, leaves a lot to be desired. He has been at odds with his brother Lyle, who lives 500 km away from him, for more than a decade. When he hears that the latter has had a stroke, he decides to visit him to make amends. He can no longer drive himself and his mentally challenged daughter cannot take him either. So he decides to undertake the long journey on an old, slow lawn mower.
