The Killing of a Sacred Deer
After the bizarre future film The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer is the second feature made in English by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos. And as in The Lobster, the lead role is played by Colin Farrell. Nicole Kidman and Alicia Silverstone, best known for the Aerosmith clips of the 1990s, also star. Lanthimos co-wrote the Cannes award-winning screenplay for this psychological thriller with his regular writer Efthimis Filippou.
Heart surgeon Stephen Murphy (Farrell) has befriended 16-year-old Martin, who has recently lost his father, an ex-patient of Murphy's. The two initially meet in secret, but later Murphy invites him to meet his wife Anne (Kidman) and teenage children Kim and Bob. The courteous Martin strikes a chord, but something is not right about the boy somewhere, Murphy begins to suspect. And he is right...
