Joker: Folie à Deux

The sequel to one of the most successful films of 2019, Todd Philips' two Oscar-winning Joker, was eagerly awaited. At the last Venice Film Festival, the time had finally come: the sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, had its premiere there. The very enthusiastic audience present there received the film with a standing ovation of more than 11 minutes. For lead actor Joaquin Phoenix, it was too much of a good thing; he left the auditorium after nine minutes.

Lawyer Maryanne Stewart wants to prove that Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), now locked up in a mental hospital, is not responsible for the crimes of his alter ego the Joker; after all, he has a split personality. Meanwhile, because of good behaviour, Arthur is allowed to participate in singing therapy. During that therapy, he discovers his love for music, but he also meets fellow patient Lee/Harley Quin (Lady Gaga) to whom he is attracted and the feeling is mutual. She prefers Arthur to remain the Joker: the result: madness for two.
